There are currently fifteen readers for grades 1-6. Stories are beneficial in the language learning process because they provide valuable authentic material, cultural and language enrichment, personal involvement and stimulate children’s imagination. Stories at this level have been proven to enrich language learning and cultural knowledge, to gauge reading response, to teach literary criticism, and to raise the level of literary and language competence. The stories are short, fully illustrated and have the difficult words explained so as not to hinder the reading process.
